It is amazing that it takes them 10 years to realize you don't want to play with them anymore. I guess they feel they just have to have the last word and say something.

I agree, they look completely stupid. Especially when they are in a restaurant having lunch with some and can't even take the stupid thing off long enough to pay attention to the person they are eating with.

I remember in the 4th grade crying when I had to do an activity sheet featuring a turkey & pilgrim....the teacher was fed up....but it didn't help me any...I thought Jehovah was going to kill me.
I think this comment by under74 says it all. By obeying the Watchtower on this and so many other petty issues you are messing with your childrens heads and screwing them up for life. How many adults that went through this sort of thing are here posting because of the emotional strain they were put through as children. You don't need to go to the Bible or any religion to figure out if it is ok to set a day aside to have a traditional meal and give thanks you just need to use your head. That is what I believe God gave it to you for. What the WT would term "independant thinking" bad only in there eyes because of their lemming like belief system. Just the fact that witnesses have to ponder these things and seek WT approval shows how messed up it is.
i've just been reading an article online about mormons, where when they just leave the church there is a department that tries to track them down to try and get them to return to the faith.

I know a Mormon who every year has members of the church go over her tax statements to make sure her tithe is correct. I don't know if this is church policy or just the ward she goes to.
hubby had a loud confrontation with the elders last week.
by pure coincidence we ran in to a few jw's this weekend while walking the dog.
the first family welcomed us with warm christian hospitality.
As we walked past, she said a warm friendly greeting to the dog! Hubby said hello, and I grinned warmly. Full eye contact.
It just dawned on me, she never said hello to either of us.
I have a question Jnat. Is your dog still going to meetings? It could be the reason your dog is still in good standing.

today i think finally said enough to get da'd.. for those of you just tuning in, a recap: about 2-3 years i came to realize everything i had been taught as a jw was a load of steaming turds.
since then i have managed to fade away more or less, without incident.

When I was first a dub I asked the elders why the WT was so hung up on beards. They gave me old line "Wait on Jehovah to change things". That was in the early seventies, I'd still be waiting.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. Rude aren't they? Sticking their noses in your personal life. In your house and didn't even have the decency to give you their names.
I can only speak for myself but I think I would feel some sense of relief if they df'd me. Clean break, new start good I'm rid of them is what I would be thinking.
I think the problem many have when leaving the witnesses is giving them any power at all. You need to take control of the situation out of their hands. My house, my life my rules. When you are ambushed like that it is hard to think of how to handle the situation correctly. I think you handled it pretty good. No one got hurt. What I think would be good to do in a situation like this is have one of my friends show up with a video camera. Inform everyone that what happens will be recorded an you need there consent to be videoed at the begining of the recording. I'm sure they wouldn't want to stick around under those terms. Isn't the a scripture about those in darkness fear the light because they don't want their dark deeds exposed? If they refused I would ask them why do fear their behavior being recorded. I would tell them the only reason I can see is because you plan on behaving badly. In the small likelihood they did agree they would be on their best behavior, you know good witness and all of that crap.
Hang in there. And again I have to say I think you handle yourself pretty well considing the morons you are being force to deal with.
